Inner Peace

Hello all my loves!

I’ve been busy working on some projects but mostly just busy enjoying the lovely life I am blessed to live.

I wanted to share some results with you for the Craft Challenge Poll.  Thank you to the 12 that voted.  It’s nice to have feedback on the projects you create!  The winning project was the dress with 50% of the votes (sounds better than 6)!  The beach bag came in 2nd.

Thanks to all of you who support me through the blog, facebook page and especially those that have to deal with me in real life! 🙂

Lately, I’ve been noticing how destructive our minds can be when we let them run rampant  How all those ridiculous, unconstructive thoughts can get the better of you and steal away your inner peace.  I came across this article and wanted to share it with all of you.  I try to keep this blog mostly craft related but looking at the world in its current state, I think this is an article we could all use to read!

I know in a lot of circles of family/friends in my life, women especially, are looking to remember themselves, love themselves and find an inner peace and a simple happiness to life.  There are so many things we have no control over.  The only thing we have control over is ourselves (and I’m sure we can all agree, even THAT is hard at times).  Maybe you are feeling that way too!?!

Together, lets boost each other up…to be the people and society we were all meant to be.

Check out this article on How to Quiet Your Mind by Tina Su.  I think there is way more to gain from this information than a quiet mind, but a happy and wholesome life as well.  If you don’t have time to read it, keep these 4 points in mind:

  1. Say what you mean.  Mean what you say.
  2. Don’t say to anyone unless you can say to everyone.
  3. Don’t say inside, what you cannot say outside.
  4. Don’t say unless it’s true, useful or kind.

The Adventures of Sea Glass

While I was out visiting my musical soul mate and great friend in California, she gave me two pieces of sea glass she found.  The deal was I had to turn both of them into jewelry…one for her and one for me!

I really had fun staring at the shapes, trying to figure out what they looked like.  It was like when you find things in the clouds!  Once I had my ideas…away I went.

The green glass came to me right away.  I was hoping to do another Tree of Life but using the clear sea glass as a moon.  The shape wasn’t right but I was hoping I could form the metal in a way that would work.  I couldn’t.  It wasn’t working.  I knew it wasn’t what it was supposed to be.  Every time I looked at it, it only looked like one thing to me…an owl.  So here you have the finished pieces…

Sea Glass CollageNow, someone just needs to decide which one she is going to pick.  That she is not me.

Rockin' Claire's Necklace

While on this topic, I also agreed to fix this incredible necklace she had lying around.  The cord broke and I just put it on a chain…easy fix.  I just think everyone should know…if you give me something so awesome to fix, and especially if you live on the West Coast…know I will be rockin’ it a few times before you see it again!  Incriminating photo…

Now, onto the adventure part.  All this working with sea glass got me thinking…”we’ve been dumping trash on this coast longer than they have on that coast”…so onto Google I went.  I found some places in Maryland to do some sea glass hunting.  I went off on an adventure with another great friend to find sea glass.

Sea Glass Beach

The first place we went, lots of broken glass, but not very smooth.  The second place was great though.  The public area was very small but I accidentally ended up in the water and on the other side of a fence…whoops!  Tell you what…we had great finds there…and didn’t get arrested, yelled at or our vehicle towed.  Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Check it out!

What to do with all this lovely sea glass?

Lucky Little Lady in the City of Light

About a month ago, I got the pleasure of hopping on a plane and visiting a good friend in California.  It was my first time there and the furthest west I had been.  IT WAS AWESOME!!!

There’s nothing like going away, where barely anyone knows you and where you barely know anything.  There was so much to do and nearly not enough time to do it all!  I truly miss California…it just felt like a home away from home.

Here are some of the great highlights…

I was staying at my friend’s place in Ventura…literally a 5 minute walk from the beach.  Here’s Ventura Beach at sunset.

Ventura Beach Sunset

If there was ONE THING I had to do when I was there, it was to go to THIS SPOT!  To think, she stood there.  It was awesome!

Also, had to make a stop at my Hollywood Boyfriend’s spot too!

Cary Grant & Me

More men should strive to be like him.  Just like some women should look to Audrey Hepburn for some guidance!  These two prove that nothing is more attractive than class!

Here are a few other Stars I came across. Hollywood Blvd Collage

The landscape out there is amazing.  We did some of the classic drives like Mulholland Drive and Pacific Coast Highway.  It’s amazing…the amount of times a giant smile would come across my face just because of the beauty that surrounded me.

Here’s a shot from Mulholland Drive…

This is below the clouds…

Below the Clouds

…then above…

Above the Clouds

One of my simple pleasures was going down to the beach at low tide in the morning.  I found myself spending hours looking at all the creatures around me and collecting treasures on the beach.  The starfish were amazing and no matter how many I saw, I was amazed and excited by each one.  It was so cool to see all the colors and be able to touch them.  The little crabbies would scurry when you got near but they were in all the lava rock’s cracks and crevices.  I also came upon this mamma and her little babies.  I notice a beach patrol guy show up after so I think he moved the family to a safer place.

Little Crabbies

Mama Duck

I found lots of neat pebbles but one morning I must’ve found fifteen plus pieces of sand dollars.  I was like a 5-year-old catching fireflies!  Most of them were broken in some way.  This was my prize one…only one little busted part.  It’s amazing to walk along the beach and find things like that…won’t happen in OCMD, that’s for sure!

Sand Dollar Cropped

This just touches on what I got to do and experience out there!  Getting to see California and getting to see it with a great friend was such a gift.  We had a blast every day…which any girl knows can be a miracle when you are spending 7 days with the same person…but we never wanted to kill eachother…not once.  Could be that California Vibe!  Can’t wait to go back, hang with my girl and see more CALIFORNIA!!!

Giving Love

Some of you may remember this necklace…

Tree Necklace 3

A few people I work with sponsor a fundraiser for a co-worker that had passed away.  I wanted to take this moment to remind everyone we all have something special about us that can be a gift to another person.  When we all work together, I believe, it’s possible to accomplish anything.  So KUDOS to all the people who help put together this event, gave donations and showed your support.  This is something they are looking to do yearly.  I’m looking forward to giving a donation again next year.

Another exciting thing is I was told this necklace was quite the hot item!!!  I don’t know who won the raffle but I hope you are enjoying the necklace!  Below is an image a couple of hours after the raffle started…look at my cup!!! Yah!!!

But better than that, they raised over $4,500!!!

Purse for Christmas

Yes, I still have blogs to do from Christmas!  This one…and one other one.  Then, I’ll actually be, well, generally caught up, well, for Christmas projects, that is! 🙂

I am a very fortunate person.  Not only was I made this awesome, just naturally, but I’m blessed to have so many awesome and amazing people in my life.  There are many people who love to help my crafting efforts or whatever it is I’m doing here.  One of my blessings comes in the form of what I like to call my Mother-In-Law.  Now, many of you know I am not married…“so how do you have in-laws?” you ask?  I don’t.  I’ve stolen my brothers!

My sister-in-law’s mom does all kinds of great interior designing.  When she has left over scraps…she gives them to me.  I know, so blessed am I!!  Recently, well no, not recently, but close enough, I was given about 2 bags of material.  I’ll go through and pick out what I’ll use.  The rest I’ll donate to a local re-use-it shop, Lancaster Creative Reuse (while searching for their link, I see they moved to a new location…yah!  It looks bigger and more convenient than in the city…yah!).

I came across this one piece of material and a bestie of mine’s name screamed out in my head.  I knew it was meant to be used to create something for her (another blessing in my life)!  I bounced around the idea of doing one of my beach bags for her since, like a year ago, she said she really liked mine and wanted one.  However, this material was too classy, too upscale for just a beach bag.  I decided to make her a purse.  The material made me think of Coach a little bit.

I did some research online for different purse ideas, through them into a “pot” and then pulled out my own pattern for her Christmas purse.  I bought some outdoor canvas, I used this for my beach bag and it was great!  It had a toughness to it but not so much that the material didn’t move.  The outer material was thin and delicate so I wanted to use something stronger so the bag would hold up.  I figure it’s like the opposite of most purses.  The lining is always so thin and rips and then you lose things in the holes.  This way, the lining is tough and the outside of the bag is delicate.  I also picked up a magnetic snap and off to creating I went.

I am so happy with this purse and she appeared to be happy with it too!  One of the best things about a homemade gift is it has a lifetime warranty ,or well, as long as you’re alive or friends still.  So far, it appears to be holding up to her BUSY schedule…but if something should tear, it can always be fixed by the creator!

Sorry my pictures aren’t better!  With the Christmas rush it became more about getting the gifts finished and less about taking pictures of them.

In addition, I have to give her props.  She doesn’t do too much crafty/sewing stuff…she lives in the world of photography, but this Christmas, she took the time to make me a handmade gift as well.  It was one of those no-sew fleece blankets.  She did a wonderful job and it keeps me warm on a daily basis…much like the love in our friendship! xo

It’s On Like Donkey Kong!

The list has been set!

Below are all the things either suggested to me by facebook friends or what I could come up with.  Here’s the list of options:

All these ideas were cut up into pieces, folded and placed into a hat.  My Mom asked if she could be there for the drawing…I told her that’s probably a good idea.  That way I wasn’t tempted to cheat and throw something back in for another pick.

I wanted to start my first challenge with 5 items.  Giving each project 2 weeks…so that’s 10 weeks right there.  A good place to start. I had already decided I wanted to create a dress and shoes.  Since those seemed the most challenging, I threw them onto the end of the list.   I just had to fill 3 spaces.  Here are the results…

  • Project 1 – Necklace
  • Project 2 – Beach Bag
  • Project 3 – Hat (this is the one I would’ve thrown back in)
  • Project 4 – Dress
  • Project 5 – Shoes

So…here we go!  I already have a plan in mind for most of the projects.  I’m running to Michael’s to pick up one thing I need and then it’s on!  I should be able to have this finished in less than a week…we’ll see!  You better check-in to see the finished necklace or subscribe to my blog and you’ll be notified when the first project is done!

I would just like to add a special thanks to the friends and family that have been supporting me while starting this new project.  A special thanks to Kelly R. (my “cupcake/cakepop (well, what don’t you cook)” girl).  She has been so helpful with sharing ideas and more so…helping me figure out my new blog on wordpress!!!
